He attend the Ivey Business School University of Western Ontario, where he earned an MBA in entrepreneurship. During this time O’Leary took a summer job with Nabisco in Toronto, as assistant brand manager. He then worked as a television producer and co-founded Special Event Television (SET), which he eventually sold to a business partner for $25,000.

Next O’Leary launched another successful venture, Softkey, a publisher and distributor of CD-ROM based personal computer software. The company was so successful that it bought-out the competition, eventually acquiring The Learning Company (TLC) and taking it’s name. O’Leary later sold the company, to toy giant Mattel for $4.2 billion dollars.

He has built companies bearing his name in a number of industries including O’Leary Funds Inc., O’Leary Ventures, O’Leary Mortgages, O’Leary books and O’Leary Fine Wines. With his skills in the art of business and his determined personality, O’Leary is bound to go down as one of the savviest business entrepreneurs of the 21st century.
